14th Science Picnic we have just gone through

16.06.2010

14th Science Picnic of Polish Radio and the Copernicus Science Centre was held on 12th June 2010 (this year in new location) in Marszałek Rydz-Śmigły Square (Park Marszałka Rydza-Śmigłego) in Warsaw.

The Science Picnic is Europe’s largest outdoor science-popularization event, a one-of-a-kind occasion where whole families can experiment and take part in scientific demonstrations prepared by universities and research institutes from all over the world. The objective of the Picnic is to show how science is present in our daily lives, as well as to encourage visitors to be inquisitive about the world and to pursue their own interests.

Main theme of this year Science Picnic was “Great MicroWorld”. Attendants discovered the strange world around them, they learned about great importance of (usually) unseen things. Almost 215 organizations from 21 countries took part in the event, they presented about 1000 experiments. This year special guest was Great Britain. In the Copernicus Science Centre tents (nr 6, 7, 8, 9) guests learned about various functions and structures of biological cells, also they discovered the whole potential of their neurons, they ciphered their name into DNA code, they checked various fungus species and built big fullerene.
