2013 is a breakthrough year in the history of the Science Picnic. On the one hand, the 17th Picnic – for the first time held on the National Stadium – was attended by 150,000 people willing to make same experiments together, wanting to meet the scientists and know as much as possible about their work. On the other, a whole family of Picnics has been established in the eastern and southern Europe – Picnics were organised for the first time in Lithuania, Ukraine, Russia and Croatia, and in Georgia it was already the second Science Picnic.
Picnics start to play a significant role in the establishment of local environments acting for science popularisation, which we could view for instance in Ukraine. There we have met scientists and representatives of different educational institutions interested in cooperation with the Picnic, as well as many young people, who have supported the Picnic with great dedication as volunteers.
