FameLab is an international competition under the auspices of the British Council held around the world. Its Polish edition is co-organised by the Copernicus Science Centre. The idea is simple: give scientists a stage and a mike, provide support in the form of training, and help them spread their wings. Whether this means gaining a new tool for popularising science or improving skills crucial for their scientific career depends entirely on them. One thing is certain: taking part in FameLab opens many new doors for all scientists and researchers. Previous FameLab editions’ participants include the following excellent science communicators and scientists: Justyna Zaręba-Lesiak, Magdalena Richter, Alicja Wolny, Szymon Drobniak, Marcin Zastawnik, Monika Koperska, Joanna Bagniewska, Dariusz Aksamit and many more.
Each participant has only 3 minutes to present the chosen topic. This time limit is strictly observed on all competition stages, including the soon to be opened pre-selection stage. To submit your entry to FameLab, each candidate has to fill in the registration form available at famelab.org.pl from 4 December 2017 to 29 January 2018. The most important part of it is your 3-minute video – the recording of your presentation on science. The video has to be a continuous recording, without cuts or editing, and it has to show you. The use of props is allowed. We don’t really look at the technical quality of the recording – as long as it allows us to see and hear your presentation.
Do you think the task is hard? We will help you. Soon on the FameLab Facebook profile we will start posting tips and advice for making your science presentation interesting and entertaining. Follow us on: https://www.facebook.com/FameLabPoland/
Winner of the first prize will receive PLN 25,000, winner of the second prize – PLN 12,000, winner of the third prize – PLN 6,000. Winner of the Audience Award will receive a voucher for language services (language course, language exam, or proofreading of a text) founded by the British Council. Additionally, a special distinction will be awarded by the Kościuszko Foundation – it will be a promise of a 3-month scholarship in the USA in the amount of USD 9,000.
We are happy to announce the schedule of this year’s FameLab:
