Professor Skarżyński made a breakthrough in treatment of the deaf and hearing impaired when — for the first time in Poland — he performed the first cochlear implantation and restored hearing ability to a deaf adult. So far, he has performed the largest number of hearing improving operations in the world. He is the author and co-author of many patents for implemented devices related to medical technology, and of over a thousand scientific works. By starting his treatment programme and establishing the Foundation of Medical Development “Homo Homini”, professor Skarżyński began the history of treating deafness in Poland. He built the Institute of Physiology and Pathology of Hearing, the World Hearing Center in Kajetany, and the National Network of Teleaudiology for which he received the Prix Galien award.
We would like to congratulate the professor on behalf of the Copernicus Science Centre!
