Surviving on a desert island is a classic theme of all survival courses. As a result of a maritime disaster, we find ourselves on an unknown land, and then… Test your intuition and compare your guesses with our experts’ answers. Some of them may really surprise you!
Desert islands on the seas don’t appear only in adventure books and films. A lot of them are located close to European shores. Most – about 30 – can be found near Croatia. Some of them, like Travna near Hvar, are tiny, with less than 1 km of coastline.
Fire and wind destroy everything that comes in their way: houses, cars, power lines. After such a natural disaster, survival skills can prove very valuable.
Fire tornados are very rare. Information on fiery whirlpools that move along causing mayhem is most often related to giant fires that cover forest areas.
Even an ordinary strong wind can cut us off power supply or heating and destroy our house. But tornado is an extreme example of wind that causes incomparably greater damage.
Tornados occur on every continent apart from Antarctica and most often – in the USA. Usually their wind force is not stronger than 180 km/h, their crater is up to 75 meters wide and they “travel” the distance of up to a few kilometres.
