The “Cognitive adventures” Conference at the Copernicus Science Centre 2017

Understanding learning processes requires close collaboration among scientists representing a range of disciplines. Seemingly simple questions on the key mechanisms, effectiveness, motivation and conditions that underpin learning are in fact highly complex and require the application of a range of methods, tools and approaches. Answers can only be found by crossing and transcending the traditional boundaries between scientific disciplines. The conference “Cognitive Adventures: Learning” is an attempt to integrate current knowledge on the subject of learning with the aim to improve education in STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). Come join us for the conference!

The programme of the conference, organised by the Copernicus Science Centre and the SWPS University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Warsaw, features appearances and workshops led by the event’s special guests.

Registration 550 PLN or 130 EUR
Students and PhD students – 380 PLN or 90 EUR

Special guests:

Whom do we want to encourage to participate?

Psychologists, sociologists, anthropologists, culture scholars, museologists, educators, teachers, pedagogues, students and everyone interested in innovative research into learning processes.

Scope of presentations:

  • Social and cultural conditions for learning and developing scientific aspirations
  • Key mechanisms in STEM subject learning
  • Developing skills in critical thinking, problem solving and using technology versus STEM education
  • The role of educational tools (exhibits, kits, programmes, educational aids etc.) in learning STEM subjects
  • Communication vs. learning: participants, processes, structure, scope

The conference includes:

  • Lectures and panel discussions
  • Methodological workshops in the Copernicus Science Centre’s exhibition space, led by special guests
  • BADNIGHT! An event during which researchers are encouraged to talk about their own inspirational failures. Evening wear optional, but laughter and a healthy dose of self-criticism are obligatory.
