Temptation of Immorality – Discussion panels

Meetings with artists and experts, accompanying the “Temptation of immortality” exhibition, are an excellent occasion to find out more about the main ideas behind the Festival. The panels will be devoted to research projects conducted in the fields of humanities, art, design and biological sciences.

Art&Science Meetings is a 5-year programme of the Łaźnia Centre for Contemporary Art led by professor Ryszard Kluszczyński. This initiative includes presenting accomplishments of the most outstanding world creators of science and technology development projects. This meeting, organised with the aim of promoting the latest publication of the series, is at the same time an occasion to meet with Patrick Tresset, an artist whose “Three Robots Named Paul” installation will be open to visitors during the whole Festival.

Meeting with top European creators of critical design. Our guests will talk about designing as a tool for asking questions and creating alternative scenarios of the future. The main topic of the meeting will be the role of a designer in the process of getting familiar with new technologies, especially in the field of biomedicine.

The project of an eco-coffin, known under the name of the “Capsula Mundi”, proves that a responsible life in a global eco-system does not end with one’s death. In a complex network of relations, the end of one organism means the beginning of another. Will we change stone cemeteries into gardens and forests one day? Why are we so attached to the idea of body preservation after death? Discussion with the authors of the “Capsula Mundi” and an outstanding Polish philosopher and an art critic.

A session with the founders of Patient Innovation, a website that encourages patients all over the world to share their medical inventions. Owing to the committed team of activists, amateur innovations have found their way to the general public, and some of them went on to become a fixture in hospitals and other health care institutions.

Magda and Tomasz are parents to little Leo, whose struggle with his illness they have captured in a documentary titled “Our Curse”. The film, available on Patient Innovation, is an inspiration to other parents and caretakers of children suffering from the syndrome known as Ondine’s curse.

Summary of two creative workshops of the Przemiany Festival and the future scenario workshop organised by SPARKS. All of them evolved around different aspects of medicine development, in the context of changing law, new technologies and relations between scientists and animals used for trials and research. The panellists will analyse implemented methods, discuss the results of cooperation and present opinions of all specialists involved in the projects.
