KiiCS (Knowledge Incubation in Innovation and Creation for Science) is a 3 year programme (January 2012 – January 2015) financed by European Commission, and executed by European Science Centre And Museum Association, ECSITE.
The European KiiCS project is focused on creating innovation and knowledge incubators , similar to business incubators already introduced in Poland. KiiCS wants to encourage scientists, artists and enterpreneurs to cooperate.
The project encompasses 9 European cities. It’s executed by science centres, universities, non-government organizations, associations and art galleries. Each institution chooses their own field of interest. They perform actions within which the participants look for creative solutions and ideas. Polish KiiCS programme is supervised by Copernicus Science Centre, and the topic is „Healthy City”.
In the incubators, the scientists, artists and enterpreneurs meet – both the experts we invite and people in search of inspiration. They’re both adults and youth (the latter in a separate project block). Such meetings often sprout innovative projects and new ways of scientific communication. By doing things like interactive games or virtual experiments, they stimulate the young generation’s interest in science. They can support these with laboratory courses, workshops, exhibitions and artistic events, organized by the incubator creators.
KiiCS will show, how important are science and innovation centres in developing European creativity. As open, accessible institutions, which inspire the society, they are the best field for coming up with new ideas, which are bound to model the future of Europe. Is there another place, where scientist, artists, interpreneurs and society – especially youth – might co-operate so easily?” (C. Franche, executive director at ECSITE, KiiCS project leader).
