Overstimulation, difficulty concentrating, insomnia and a feeling of constant fatigue are increasingly linked to spending long periods of time in front of screens. Research by the American Cancer Society (January 2025) has shown a direct link between avoiding screens for 60 minutes before bedtime and an increase in the duration of deep sleep. A WHO report (September 2024) indicates that people who spend less than two hours a day in front of a screen have a nearly 50% lower risk of being diagnosed with anxiety disorders compared to those who overuse technology.

Is that the whole secret to well-being? Is simply cutting down on social media enough? Anyone who’s tried it knows that it’s only that simple in theory.

Psychologist Jean Hansen from Clarity Health Care has even identified the difficult stages of screen detox, including, for example, the sensation of a phone vibrating in your pocket even though it isn’t there (phantom vibrations) and the anxiety that you’re missing out on something (FOMO). Our brains, accustomed to scrolling through short videos and instant dopamine rewards, are also losing the ability to tolerate boredom or sustain prolonged intellectual effort There is also the dilemma of what to do with the time you’ve gained, and how to spend it whilst avoiding the temptations of the internet. You can find a safe haven here.

You’re warmly invited! We don’t ask you to hand in your phones at the door. There’s no need. As you get stuck into the activities, you’ll soon forget you’ve got them in your pockets.
